Marathon marks Bungie's return to its own sci-fi roots and the Destiny studio's first venture into the extraction genre. As Runners, teams of up to three players explore the abandoned colony of Tau Ceti IV, scavenging resources while holding their own against hostile security forces and rival Runner crews alike.
After several delays since its 2025 announcement, the game launched in March 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with full crossplay and cross-save. Bungie's experience with loot progression and gunplay from the Destiny series shows clearly, paired with a notably low entry price of just 40 dollars for a game of this scale.
