Bounty-hunt horror, sound design as a core mechanic
About the game
Alongside Tarkov, Hunt: Showdown is one of the genre's most influential early extraction shooters, still built around its defining feature: sound design as a core mechanic. Footsteps, gunfire, and monster noises often give away enemy positions before your eyes do, combined with a bounty-hunt core against supernatural creatures in the original's Louisiana swamp setting.
Following its original 2019 release, August 2024 brought a major relaunch as Hunt: Showdown 1896: a new engine version, the new Colorado mountain map Mammon's Gulch, and noticeable technical improvements, while the old Bayou maps returned reworked. For atmospheric horror-western with genuine genre history, this is one of the longest continuously supported titles in the field.
