About the game
Eldegarde was a fantasy action RPG from Notorious Studios, a studio founded in 2023 by former World of Warcraft developers. It blended classic MMO elements with an extraction-shooter-style loss mechanic. Originally launched into Early Access as "Legacy: Steel & Sorcery," it released into version 1.0 in January 2026. Players picked from six fantasy classes — Warrior, Rogue, Hunter, Priest, Wizard and Paladin — and explored five distinct zones solo or with up to two friends. Three modes were on offer: PvE Expeditions against AI enemies, the namesake PvPvE Extraction mode where fallen players lost all their gear to survivors, and a gear-free Arena for pure skill-based PvP with no loss risk. The game also featured base-building and crafting via buildings like the Forge, Loom and Critter Habitat, a vendor reputation system in the town of Stonehaven, 17 campaign questlines, and over 110 rotating daily and weekly quests. Despite a positive reception among part of its community, Eldegarde didn't attract enough players to sustain server operations financially. Developer Notorious Studios announced the shutdown roughly two months after the full 1.0 launch; sales on Steam were pulled immediately, and the servers went offline permanently on March 31, 2026. A small group of volunteers subsequently explored the possibility of an offline version, though no outcome has been confirmed.
