1/5Solo VR extraction with a dog companion in a procedural anomaly zone
About the game
CONVRGENCE is a VR-only extraction shooter from solo developer Nik (Monkey-With-a-Bomb), who previously made Paradox of Hope. It's set in the Chernokamensk Anomaly Zone: after an explosion at a secret lab, the city was walled off, and ever since, artifact hunters have been drawn into the zone. You're one of them, but you're not alone. A dog joins you on every raid, helping in fights and sniffing out supplies.
The loop is classic extraction: maintain your guns, pack ammo and supplies, head into the raid, grab loot and artifacts and get out in time. Die and you lose everything that wasn't insured. Locations are procedurally generated, so no two raids look quite the same. Things get really dangerous at night, when demons come out to hunt, on top of bandits and wild animals. The whole interface lives inside the game world, with no floating menus or laser pointers, and there's a seated mode, a left-handed mode and several movement options.
After a little over two years in Early Access, version 1.0 has been out since September 17, 2026. It adds a fully voiced main story with a proper ending, reworked missions with far less grind and a new final location, the Epicenter. There are also two new difficulty modifiers, Infinite Insurance and Permadeath. There's no PvP, and the developer says co-op isn't planned either. Two larger updates are lined up for 2027: one with a new raid location in a new biome, one focused on the endgame after the story. You play through SteamVR with a PC VR headset; there's no standalone Quest version.
