Embark Studios has confirmed October 8 as the release date for Frozen Trail, the studio's own pick for the biggest update ARC Raiders has seen since launch. After shifting to fewer, larger updates back in May, the team is now showing off what's actually been in the works: a brand new map, new high-level content, fresh ARC enemies and a deeper progression system.

The New Map: A Frozen Village Beyond the Mountains

Frozen Trail's centerpiece is a brand new map. Shani sends Raiders after a mysterious signal coming from an unexplored region beyond the mountains, and something big has clearly happened out there. Hardly any Raider is going to skip the first scouting run.

The setting: a snowbound, long-abandoned mountain settlement at the very edge of the Rust Belt, once home to factories, research facilities and an observatory. Embark's level design team leaned hard into verticality and exploration:

  • Threats both above and below ground
  • Areas no Raider has set foot in before
  • Significantly more room for discovery than on any existing map

A first round of user testing already wrapped up, and the team says it's still iterating to get the map right.

A New High-Level Challenge: A Massive New ARC Operation

Frozen Trail also adds a huge new ARC Operation aimed at experienced Raiders who want to push themselves further. Embark is keeping most of the details under wraps for now, but the direction is clear: dynamic encounters, teamwork, and decisions that actually matter.

This one won't be easy. Combat, teamwork, risk and survival all need to line up, or you're not walking away. Embark is calling it one of the most intense experiences ARC Raiders has offered so far.

New ARC, New Threats

Alongside the new map comes a fresh wave of ARC enemies, built specifically to break the movement, combat and adaptation habits Raiders have picked up so far. They range from a small, nimble troublemaker to a massive machine that'll stop you dead in your tracks.

Every new ARC goes through months of iteration, from early concepts and animation to behavior and machine-learning systems meant to give each machine its own distinct personality.

More Depth for Raiders: Outpost, Skill Tree and Raider Decks

Frozen Trail is also reshaping what it means to be a Raider. The familiar Raider Den is getting an upgrade: the Outpost, a new space where Raiders finally get to step back onto the surface after months spent hiding underground.

Inside the Outpost, there's room to settle in and build long-term:

  • Decorate and personalize your own Outpost
  • Research new elements of the world
  • Take the first steps toward reclaiming the surface

Embark is also adjusting the Skill Tree to give players more control over how they build their Raider, and Raider Decks are getting attention too, with the goal of making them more engaging and rewarding.

And There's Still More

Embark is teasing additional content for Frozen Trail without going into specifics yet:

  • New weapons with more personalization options
  • New gadgets and instruments
  • New cosmetics
  • More surprises to be revealed closer to launch

On top of that, ongoing work on matchmaking, anti-cheat, stability and other quality-of-life improvements continues in the background, even if it rarely makes headlines.

Release Date: October 8, More Details in September

Frozen Trail launches October 8, 2026. Embark plans to share more details in September. Anyone heading to gamescom in Cologne can meet the team in person, an invitation Embark extends directly.
