Red Rover Interactive has crunched the numbers from the latest Enginefall playtest, and they read like a police report from a moving train.
The more interesting part is the outlook, though: Enginefall is moving to Unreal Engine 5.8.3, and the world is set to get a lot bigger.
Pickpockets, guns and deadly doors
A few highlights from the September Closed Community Playtest:
- Pickpocketing: the top thief went through other people's pockets 45 times, second place managed 43.
- Most popular weapon: the Improvised Pistol with 3,961 recorded events, just one ahead of the Tier 1 SMG at 3,960.
- Biggest environmental threat: poison with 1,298 damage events, followed by the Fire Purge at 442.
- Oddities: doors dealt damage 35 times and supply drops 4 times. Stand right under the drop point and the loot fights back.
The Super Stomp is especially nasty: it caused 24 deaths, a third of them by a single player with 8 kills. The team simply says it is keeping an eye on them.
Switching to Unreal Engine 5.8.3
Behind the scenes, Red Rover is working on bigger changes, including more performance work and the move to Unreal Engine 5.8.3. For a game that spent September pushing hard on performance for lower-end PCs, that is an important step.
How far do the tracks go?
The studio gets noticeably cryptic at the end: the world of Enginefall is bigger than what you have seen so far. You have learned to survive aboard the trains, and soon you might wonder how far those tracks really go. Red Rover is not saying what that means yet, only that the next chapter is taking shape.
There is no date for the next test yet. As usual, news will come through Discord.
