Enginefall is getting a Down But Not Out system: get shot down aboard the Titan Trains and you are no longer dead on the spot, but can be revived by other players.
That does not make you safe, though, because anyone lying on the floor can still be robbed.
Down, but not out
Most situations that used to kill you instantly will now leave you in a downed state. You can still do a few things:
- Crawl: slowly, at about crouch-walking speed, to get out of the line of fire.
- Open doors: as an escape route or so a teammate can reach you.
- Get revived: other players can get you back on your feet before you bleed out.
There are new first-person and third-person animations too, plus dedicated audio for starting, cancelling and finishing a revive.
Defenceless and worth robbing
While downed, you cannot fight back, swap weapons, equip gear or do much of anything. And the key line from the announcement: downed players can still be pickpocketed. Whoever reaches you might save your life, or check your pockets first.
For a game where pickpocketing was already a national sport in the last playtest, that is a fitting twist. A quick kill turns into a desperate crawl for cover, a risky rescue or an opening for the next Raider.
Also new: a better character creator
A week earlier, Red Rover showed off its reworked character creator, with finer skin tone controls and a cleaner interface. The studio is also asking the community what it wants next: more hairstyles, different facial features or more ways to make your Freerailer stand out.
There is no word yet on when Down But Not Out will be playable in a test.
