Active Matter has been fully out since September 15: on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at the same time.
A year after the early version on the Gaijin launcher, Matter Team's sci-fi extraction shooter is finally where most players expected to find it.
Launch on three platforms with crossplay
The Standard Edition costs 29.99 USD/EUR, with pricier editions that add more gear and in-game currency. The former Premium Edition is now the Deluxe Edition and got an upgrade: more weapons, more currency and a second Body Sleeve called Knight. Existing Premium owners get the upgrades automatically.
Crossplay is in from day one, with three separate queues:
- your own platform only
- consoles only (Xbox and PlayStation)
- every platform, PC and consoles
Each player has to pick or confirm the setting themselves.
What Gaijin Store buyers need to know
If you bought the early version on the Gaijin Store, you get the Steam version at no extra cost until November 23, and you can link your progress between the two. There was no wipe at launch, which a lot of players had been counting on.
A new Harmonization Cycle and Merits
Launch kicks off the next Harmonization Cycle with new rewards. New are Merits, which you earn during a cycle and swap for prizes, including rewards from earlier cycles. Merits come from daily Priority Raid objectives and Monolith access levels.
Legendary weapons can now drop in raids across the multiverse too. Shelter and inventory management got faster, so you get back into the next raid sooner.
Over a hundred tracks, Akira Yamaoka included
The soundtrack has more than a hundred pieces from independent composers and guest artists. Shortly before launch, Gaijin confirmed that Akira Yamaoka, known for the Silent Hill music, is one of them. The soundtrack is sold separately on Steam or included in the Deluxe Edition, and is set to come to streaming platforms later.
How Matter Team announced the move away from its own launcher is covered in our piece on the release announcement. The studio has also promised a roadmap for what comes next.
